President Obama and Governor Quinn Starring in A Ford Story
Dear Aaron,
Today, Governor Pat Quinn joined President Barack Obama at a Ford Explorer plant on Chicago's South Side. The factory's growth represents our Governor's successful effort over the last 20 months to create jobs in Illinois.
The dedication of the Ford plant on July 26 was the result of months of hard work on the part of the Quinn administration. Think about that: because Governor Quinn made it a better business environment and less expensive for Ford to build Explorers in Chicago than it would have been in another state -- Ford Motor Company chose Illinois for its big investment. 1200 new jobs for our state - that could have gone somewhere else. Today's visit to the plant from our President reinforces our need for a Governor with the vision to bring more jobs to Illinois.
These jobs are the result of targeted investment tools that are helping businesses across the state create jobs and fuel our economy. In Illinois, we are being innovative and nimble and giving our businesses the incentives they need to keep our economic recovery moving forward.
A key factor in Ford's choice was the expansion of one of these targeted investment tools - the Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) tax credit - that Governor Quinn championed and signed into law late last year. As a direct result of the law, Ford is investing nearly $400 million to begin producing the 2011 Ford Explorer at its assembly and stamping plants in Chicago.
Senator Bill Brady says our state is not business friendly. But our record in the last year suggests otherwise. With Governor Quinn's leadership, Illinois leads the Midwest in job creation, with nearly 60,000 new jobs in 2010. Ford's 1,200 new positions are expected to support nearly ten times as many indirect jobs.* Additionally, Ford's suppliers plan to add more than 600 new jobs in Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan.
The dedication of Ford's plant is just the latest in a growing list of Illinois job announcements that are the direct result of Governor Quinn commitment to putting people back to work.
Illinois is leading the Midwest in jobs in 2010-- 60,000 new jobs since the beginning of the year. These solid job creation numbers are not a coincidence; they are a direct result of Governor Quinn's economic strategies. Just as he did with Ford, Governor Quinn's administration has worked with nearly 700 companies to help them stay, start, and expand in Illinois.
We need Pat Quinn's optimism, experience and persistence to accelerate our economic comeback. Click here to help him continue fighting for us. Click here to help him continue fighting for us.
Sincerely,
Ben Nuckels Campaign Manager Quinn for Illinois
"Ford has a long and proud history of building great vehicles and creating jobs in Illinois going all the way back to the Model T. We are very excited that legacy continues with the reinvented Ford Explorer, and we appreciate the governor's support. --Bill Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor Company.
