We Want You Working

Gov. Pat Quinn

A MESSAGE FROM QUINN FOR ILLINOIS

Aaron,

Addressing the Democratic National Convention in 1932, Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt of New York asked the question, "What do the people of America want more than anything else?"

Roosevelt knew Americans wanted two things: "Work, with all the moral and spiritual values that go with it; and with work, a reasonable measure of security--security for themselves and for their wives and children."

Over a half century later, we're grappling with some of the same challenges Americans faced in 1932.  For many, both work and security seem out of reach.

Illinois' economy has been sorely hit by the "Great Recession," and families are struggling to put food on their tables.

Illinoisans who once worked well-paying and rewarding jobs now find themselves unemployed, with few prospects for the future.

Governor Quinn knows how difficult the times are for most people.  It seems everyone knows someone who has lost their job, or has lost a job themselves.

Wall Street may be declaring the recession officially over, but the downturn is still a fact of life for families across Illinois.

Governor Quinn isn't content to wait out the economic storm. Crises demand leadership and decisive action, and that's exactly what our Governor has provided.

In July, Governor Quinn signed Illinois Jobs Now!, the state's first jobs plan in 10 years. And yesterday, Governor Quinn unveiled his plan to generate further recovery and renewal in Illinois.

The Illinois Economic Recovery Plan calls for investment in five key areas: infrastructure, human capital, innovation, international trade, and the green economy.

Our campaign is a fight against unemployment.  We want to make sure that every Illinoisan has the chance to work and provide for their family.

As Governor Quinn says, "If you're willing, we want you working."

The fundamentals haven't changed since F.D.R.'s speech in 1932.  The people of our state still want and deserve meaningful work and a chance to get ahead.

It's time to fulfill that promise once again.

Thank You,

John Kamis
