Inevitable
|
Dear Friend,
It was only a matter of time.
Pat Quinn took to the airwaves with an ad so misleading and absurd, it drew catcalls from neutral observers. In the ad, Quinn attacks Dan for actually doing his job, attending a meeting in Washington, DC with President Obama, taking a family trip around July 4, and yes, getting a haircut. The ad is so silly, reporters said it was "deliberately designed to insult our intelligence" and "misfires badly."
Help us fight back.
It's unfortunate the debate has sunk to this level in a very important election, but we can't rely on the ad's sheer silliness to debunk it – we have to fight back and continue telling Democratic primary voters about the very real choice they have in this race. Help us do this by contributing $250, $100, $50, $25, or whatever you can give today.
It was only a month ago that Quinn and his political supporters spent all their time telling anyone who would listen that Pat Quinn was the "inevitable" candidate, that he would win the primary and be our party's choice for next November's election. They touted their internal poll numbers and their big-money and big-clout endorsements, and basically said anyone who wasn't with Pat Quinn was wasting their time. But we knew better. And so did you.
A month ago, some pundits wondered aloud when Dan Hynes would get out of the race. No one's saying that now. Your contribution of $250, $100, $50, $25, or whatever you can give will help Dan sustain the momentum and continue talking about the real issues facing the state of Illinois.
Confident frontrunners don't run silly attack ads and sling mud. Vulnerable incumbents do. Pat Quinn knows he's in trouble. Poll after poll shows his job approval deteriorating, and observers all around the state are noticing that Pat Quinn isn't much of a leader. Whether it's the budget, which continues to be out of balance and getting worse, or ethics reform, where after Quinn vetoed the legislation he had previously hailed as "landmark," he "just parked himself in a corner and wasn't a player," according to a leading reform advocate, it seems like no one's in charge in Springfield. But Pat Quinn has definitely taken charge of his campaign, and the early indications aren't pretty. He's slinging mud and running outrageous ads in an attempt to tear Dan down and cling to his tenuous grip on the Governor's Mansion.
Don't let him get away with it. Send $250, $100, $50, $25, or whatever you can give to support real leadership and real change.
We're going to continue talking about the issues that matter and make our case for why Dan has the best ideas and vision to get Illinois back on track. We're going to treat people like adults and run a campaign you can be proud of. We're going to make sure Illinois Democrats have a candidate who reflects the best our party has to offer, with the leadership and competence to see it through.
It's inevitable.
Thank you for all you do.
All the best,
Michael Rendina
Campaign Manager
Dan Hynes for Governor
PS: Illinois political institution Rich Miller called Pat Quinn's new spot "the most misleading ad of the season" and said it was "deliberately designed to insult our intelligence." Help us counter these preposterous attacks by contributing today.
