Re: Will you be silent?

Dear Supporter,

When I first reached out to you last month, things were bad.

Mosques across the country were facing harsh opposition, and pundits on cable news regularly deployed hate-filled arguments to oppose the planned Park 51 community center in lower Manhattan. Unfortunately, now it's much worse.

A cab driver in New York was stabbed for being Muslim.  A Mosque in Tennessee was vandalized and burned.  Tomorrow, right-wing groups are holding an anti-Islam rally at Ground Zero, and the Westboro Baptist church plans to burn Korans if a fringe Florida church cancels its plans to do so.

Muslims are our friends, neighbors, fellow citizens and Faithful America community members, and now more than ever they need to know they have our support.  Nearly 8,000 of your fellow Faithful America members have already spoken out.

Sign our petition today, and help us get 10,000 signatures by September 12.

On that day, in commemoration of the unity and support many of us felt on September 12, 2001, we'll send our letter and signatures to leaders in the American Muslim community.

Speak up today, and show our Muslim sisters and brothers, and the rest of the country, what we really stand for.

Thanks,

Beth

PS -- We know many congregations across the country are also speaking out and organizing inspiring witnesses.  It's so encouraging to see the faith community speak out with so many different voices! If your congregation is still looking for resources for services over 9/11 weekend, check out this Washington Post piece.

The American Muslim community needs our support

A wave of hate directed at Muslims is sweeping across our nation.

Help stand up for our values of peace and religious liberty. Sign our letter of support to the Muslim community.

Dear Supporter,

"They hate Jews, they hate Christians, they hate women, they hate dogs [The idea of the new mosque] scares the daylights out of me." [1]

Sadly, this is just a small sample of the vitriol directed at the Muslim community in recent weeks as a growing chorus of fear-mongers tries to stop Muslims from worshiping freely. [2]

Lumping all Muslims in with terrorists, Sarah Palin said a proposed Islamic Center near Ground Zero in New York is a "provocation" that "stabs at hearts," and Newt Gingrich called it an "insult" to Americans.

Our country is better than this. Our faiths are better than this.

Sign our letter of support to the American Muslim community.

Here at Faithful America we draw on many faith traditions, but our common commitment to justice and the common good brings us together. Our Muslim community members and partners have been with us on all our campaigns from health care reform to repairing our broken immigration system to opposing torture.

We won't stand by silently as members of our community are defamed as "terrorists" and "un-American."

Help show our Muslim brothers and sisters that the hateful voices do NOT speak for us.

We'll send the letter and signatures to leaders in the American Muslim community - as well as vocal Islamic Center opponents like Palin and Gingrich. They need a reminder that you can't "defend America" by betraying our deepest values.

While we all have an obligation to treat victims of crime and terrorism with sensitivity, we also need to remember that Muslims were not only among those murdered on 9/11, but there is no stronger refutation of the terrorist ideology than American Muslims peacefully integrated into the fabric of our communities.

Sign our letter and send a photo to show your support for peace, cooperation and religious liberty.

Let's show our Muslim brothers and sisters and the fear-mongers where the American faith community really stands: with justice, compassion and love.

Thanks for all you do,

Beth, Nick, Dan, Kristin John and Jennifer

**VIDEO** Be the First to Watch Our New Ad!

No picture? Click 'display images'!

Dear Aaron,

Could you support your family on $17,000 a year?

Hundreds of thousands of Illinois families do just that, paying for rent, groceries and school supplies on the minimum wage of $8.25 an hour. Across the state, 400,000 men and women work for minimum wage, and 100,000 Illinois children depend upon parents who earn minimum wage.
Click here to watch our new ad

But in June, Bill Brady proposed cutting Illinois' minimum wage, a move that would take $2,000 a year out of the pockets of people already struggling to make ends meet.

And, in his 17 years in the legislature, Senator Brady has consistently voted against raising the minimum wage.

Our new ad - "Learn, Chapter 2" - exposes Brady's extreme views on the minimum wage and his lack of concern for the troubles of working families in a recovering economy.

Watch our new ad and pass it along to your family and friends. They need to meet the real Senator Brady.

While multimillionaire Brady enjoys the good life - including a Porsche and a condo in Florida - his proposal would harm families and restrict Illinois' economic growth.

And Senator Brady's extreme record and views have ramifications beyond the individual policies: they reflect the kinds of bills he would sign, the executive orders he would implement, and the kind of people he would appoint to head state agencies.

Voters want someone they can trust is on their side. In his 17 years in the legislature and on the campaign trail, Bill Brady has repeatedly shown that he's simply out of touch with Illinois voters.

Watch our new ad forward it to 10 friends right away. We're 55 days away from November 2nd, and we need your help now!

Recent polls show that 40 percent of Illinois voters still don't know anything about Senator Brady. Between now and Election Day, we'll be helping voters answer the question, "Who is this guy?" and make an informed decision when they cast their vote.

Pat Quinn has always stood up for a fair wage and for all of Illinois' working families. And now we need you to stand up for him.

Watch the ad, and then forward this email to friends, volunteer for the campaign, and contribute so we can keep voters informed.

This campaign is about the future of Illinois. We need to keep moving forward, and we can't afford to go back.

Sincerely,

Ben Nuckels

Navistar and Putting Illinois Back to Work

Dear Friends,

I'm on my way back from Lisle, where we just announced that Navistar will be keeping its headquarters in Illinois - and expanding its operations.

That means 3,000 new and retained permanent jobs at Navistar for Illinois workers, plus an additional 400 construction jobs as they expand. And Navistar's CEO Dan Ustian says they'll begin hiring 500 engineering jobs immediately. Navistar’s $205 million investment in northeastern Illinois will spur economic growth across the area.

I worked hard to keep Navistar here, and developed a plan to help them expand. But Navistar is just one of 75 companies for which we’ve developed individualized investment packages – we’ve worked with Ford, Boeing, UPS and many others to bring them here, keep them here, and grow them here.

In the 19 months since I’ve been Governor, we’ve worked with large and small businesses to put people back to work.

This spring, I proposed and signed a $2,500 targeted small business job creation tax credit, helping create 20,000 jobs. I signed the first jobs bill in 10 years, which is going to put over 400,000 back to work. This summer, the Put Illinois to Work jobs program I spearheaded put 26,000 people in good paying jobs.

People are going back to work – for instance, we’re glad to see people hard at work on I-290 (though the traffic has left me enough time to write this email) – but I know that many people out there are still struggling.

We’ve still got a lot of work ahead of us. But you should know that this is what I do everyday – work hard to create jobs and make sure that we stay on the road to recovery.

In these last eight weeks, I need help from each and every one of you – we need to keep moving forward, and we need to do it together.

Sincerely,
Pat Quinn
Governor

Get on Board with Quinn/Simon!

No picture? Click 'display images'!

Dear Aaron,

Labor Day signifies the end of another wonderful Illinois summer. But as you put away those white pants, remember that Labor Day also means it's officially campaign season! Watch the Video

If you haven't already, now's the time to get involved with Pat Quinn and Sheila Simon's campaign.

If you're ready to get on board and Win with Quinn, we've got all the tools you need.

Whether you're great on the phone, talking to people at their doors, or writing letters, we need you to volunteer now!

And this Labor Day weekend, we also celebrate the hardworking men and women of our state.

Thanks to Governor Quinn, companies are moving to Illinois and our businesses are expanding. Illinois is adding jobs and outpacing the nation in economic growth.

But there's no doubt that we're still in recovery. That's why Pat Quinn is implementing a step-by-step plan to rebuild our foundations, creating and maintaining good jobs that pay a good wage.

Pat Quinn knows this is a time for hard work, not sound bites and 'quick fixes.'

Stand up for Pat Quinn and Sheila Simon like they stand up for you; sign up to volunteer today!

And what's Senator Brady been up to? Well, this week Brady promised the working people of Illinois that his tax cuts for the rich would add $1 billion to our deficit.

The more we learn about Bill Brady's agenda... the worse it gets.

Governor Quinn's got us back on track. But we need your help to make sure Bill Brady doesn't derail our progress. Click here and sign up to volunteer!

If you can give us some of your labor, we can elect Pat Quinn and Sheila Simon. We can keep creating jobs, keep our economy growing, and our state moving forward.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend, and we'll see you soon at Campaign Headquarters!

Sincerely,

Scott Belsky

Honor the Dream Today

Dear Supporter,

Right now, Glenn Beck is in the middle of his "Restoring Honor" rally on the National Mall.  Beck's gathered thousands -- including Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann -- at the Lincoln Memorial on the 47th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's iconic "I Have a Dream" speech.

Beck called his chosen date and location "divine providence," but given Beck's racially charged rhetoric and his constant misrepresentation of social justice and the civil rights movement [1], we're tempted to use far less polite words for it.

Beck has a right to free speech, but that doesn't mean we're going to let him speak for us.

Join our simple witness for social justice and Dr. King's legacy: Change your Facebook status to "I still have a dream of social justice" or another slogan that honors Dr. King and his work.

You could also download this picture and use it for your profile:

We'd love to see what creative members are doing to honor Dr. King's legacy on this day.  Feel free to post photos, your status, or what your community's doing to honor Dr. King on our Facebook page:  http://www.facebook.com/faithfulamerica

If you're not on Facebook, you can sign our petition honoring Dr. King.

Thanks for all you do,
