Surprised

Logo

Dear Friends,

Did you see it?

Sunday night, seconds before the Chicago Bears' game got underway, our campaign launched a new ad featuring people from throughout Dan's life touting his record as Comptroller and making a strong case for why he should be our next Governor.

The ad can be seen by clicking here:

Surprise YouTube

The impact was immediate – calls and emails started coming in from people who loved the ad and wanted to learn more about Dan.  The strong response reinforced what we already know, the race for Governor is wide open and the more people learn about Dan and his fair plan to solve our state's financial crisis the more his support grows.

But spreading this message comes at a cost, and Dan needs your help if we're going to stay on the air.  By making a contribution of $100, $50, $25 or whatever you can give now you can help Dan continue to spread his winning message across the state.

Just last week the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute released an independent poll that showed half of all primary voters in Illinois undecided and declared that in the race for Governor the current frontrunner is "un-known;" with Governor Quinn's reelect numbers dangerously low.  In the same poll, Dan had the highest job approval rating among all Illinois elected officials at 82 percent.

It's clear the race is wide open!

At the same time, our momentum continues to build.
Last week, Dan earned the endorsement of the State Council of Operators and Engineers as well as the State Council of Sheet Metal Workers, building on our already long list of supporters.

Help us continue to build our momentum as we communicate across the state by
making a contribution of $100, $50, $25 or whatever you can give now.

Together, we can help Dan win this campaign and be part of an effort that gets Illinois back on the right track again.

Thank you for your support and for all that you do.

Best,

Michael Rendina
Campaign Manager

P.S.

By running ads across Illinois, we are moving this campaign forward in a big way.  Help us keep Dan's message of fiscal responsibility and strong leadership on the air by making a contribution of $100, $50, $25 or whatever you can give right now.

Help the poor...ignore climate change?

Climate change is already devastating crops, destroying homes, and causing unnecessary deaths around the world.

Help stop climate change and fight against climate misinformation at DaySix.org.

Dear Supporter,

The climate campaign we launched last week -- DaySix.org -- is picking up steam. But we're already seeing pushback from those who deny climate change is a problem at all.

The Cornwall Alliance, a conservative Christian organization that has opposed climate legislation, had this reaction to DaySix.org:

"The best thing we can do to help the poor around the world is to stop trying to fight climate change."

This isn't just wrong, it's costing lives.

While groups like the Cornwall Alliance work to block climate legislation, climate change continues to worsen -- with disastrous effects for people in poor countries.

Congress needs to know these groups don't speak for us.

Fight back against climate misinformation: Sign the petition at DaySix.org.

While the Cornwall alliance might not think we need to worry about climate change, people already feeling its impacts tell a different story:

  • Climate change is affecting crop production. In rural Peru, farmers report that irregular rains and intense heat have wiped out half their production of staple crops like corn and potatoes. A government study found nearly 350,000 acres of crops have been lost due to climate change. [1]
  • There are now 26 million refugees and displaced people due to climate change. [2]
  • The WHO estimates climate change causes 150,000 deaths per year in developing countries. [3]

These are bleak statistics, but there is hope. With just a little support from us, new crops, advanced warning systems, mosquito nets and other strategies will save lives.

Clearly, the best thing we can do to "help the poor" is not to ignore climate change, but to confront it head-on while making sure low-income people can cope with its effects and rising energy prices.

For too long, people spreading misinformation about climate change and its effects have pressured our politicians into delaying action on this critical issue.

Go to DaySix.org and sign the petition. Tell Congress to ignore the misinformation and act now. Millions of lives around the world depend on it.

Thanks for all you do,

Beth, Katie, Dan, Kristin and Jennifer

On the Sixth Day

Climate Change is already hurting people around the world.

We can help. We must help.

Go to DaySix.org to watch our NEW video and join our campaign to tell the Senate to address the causes AND effects of climate change.

Dear Supporter,

Just last week, Senators John Kerry and Barbara Boxer introduced clean energy legislation to reduce climate- changing emissions.

Stopping climate pollution is key to our moral responsibility to be good stewards of the earth and our own survival.

But while we debate how to reduce carbon emissions and protect our future, climate change is already costing lives.

Millions around the world are facing increased flooding, new disease outbreaks and dying farms.

Watch our new video and tell the Senate we need immediate action to protect those already affected by climate change.

Climate change disproportionately affects the people who have done the least to cause it and have the fewest resources to cope. Developing countries are 20 times as likely to be affected by climate-related disasters.

But there is hope: new legislation in the Senate would provide targeted funding to support innovative solutions that are already helping people adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

But while we wait, typhoons like those that hit Southeast Asia last week continue to wreak havoc and destroy livelihoods. Simple solutions like raising homesteads, providing rescue boats and instituting flood early warning systems will save lives while we figure out how to address the root causes of climate change. [1]

Please help imperiled communities survive by telling the Senate that you support climate adaptation funding before the important committee vote later this month.

We've already done so much together to lift up a moral voice on health care.

And now we must stand and remind our nation that we are responsible for one another.

Act today at DaySix.org. Let's give those who need it most the help they need to survive.

Thanks for reminding the world that we're all in this together.

Sincerely,

Beth, Katie, Dan, Kristin and Jennifer

Get Involved: Live Blog, Campaign Office Grand Opening, Petitions

Logo

Dear Friends,

After another solid week of bringing his comprehensive budget plan to communities all over Illinois, it is clear that the more middle class families hear about Dan Hynes' fair, progressive plan to hold the line on taxes for 97 percent of Illinois citizens, the more they favor and trust his ideas over those of any other candidate for governor.

We're working hard to get the word out, and we know you are too. As Dan always says, we can't do this - any of this - without you.

There is a big opportunity to get involved this week.  Join Dan on Saturday, October 10, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. for his Campaign Office Grand Opening. Click Here to RSVP.

This week, we're excited to announce that even more supporters like you have a chance to get involved. Check out the opportunities below, and see where you can make a difference. (Also, take two minutes to visit our volunteer page).

JOIN DAN'S LIVE BLOG TODAY  A little later this morning - at 11 A.M. CDT - Dan will be live-blogging on his Daily Kos diary page in the comments section, personally answering questions about his vision for the bright future of Illinois from supporters all over our state. If you have a question about how his comprehensive budget plan will work for middle-class families, what the lack of MAP Grant funding for college students means to our state and your family, or other important issues facing Illinois, then stop by and join the conversation.

OFFICE GRAND OPENING  On Saturday, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Dan will host the Dan Hynes for Governor campaign office grand opening at 57 W. Grand Ave., Suite 300 in Chicago. It's a great location, that's easily accessible by car, CTA, and Metra. The Grand Opening will be open to everyone, so make sure to bring your friends, some family, and the kids! If you know you can make it, RSVP here. Drinks and light snacks will be served.

SEND US YOUR PETITIONS   When Dan kicked off his campaign, he asked all his supporters to download petition sheets so they could be passed around in the community. Now, as the petition deadline draws closer, we want to make sure that all your hard work in collecting signatures is counted. To make sure that happens, we're asking that you return the petitions to our Chicago office as soon as you can. Petitions need to be returned no later than Oct. 20, 2009. This might sound like a far-away date, but all of us get very busy, so don't forget that last, important step, and send us your petitions!

To send in your petitions, mail them to:

Dan Hynes for Governor
57 W. Grand Ave.
Suite 300

Chicago, IL 60654

After you've dropped your petitions in the mail, please e-mail me at volunteer@danhynes.com, or call me at 312-670-2010, so I know to keep a look out for your package.

Your support has been crucial in joining Dan's cause to get Illinois back on its feet, and he knows that together we can fix our state.

Thanks for all that you do.

Claudia Chavez
Dan Hynes for Governor

P.S.

Everybody In, Nobody Out

Quinn for Illinois
Dear Friend,

"Everybody in, nobody out."

That simple but powerful idea has been my guide since my first day in public service. Today, as your Governor, I am working hard to make our state government clean, efficient and responsive to the needs of everyday men and women in Illinois.

To reach that goal, I need your help today.  To make sure that we keep Illinois on the right path, we plan to compete at every level, in every part of our state, as we prepare for the Feb. 2, 2010 primary and the November general election.

This task will take enthusiasm, commitment, fortitude  – and money. So I am asking you to make a contribution to our campaign today.

Contribute Now

From my first days in public service, I have been standing up for "the little guy" against the entrenched special interests. As Governor, I am continuing the fight by working to create new jobs and help our state recover from the worst economic downturn in decades.

I am proud of what we've accomplished together in a few short months:

•    With the help of community activists, business groups and organized labor, I passed and signed into law the $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! plan, our first statewide public works program in more than a decade. Illinois Jobs Now! will create and support more than 439,000 jobs over the next six years, while updating our roads and bridges, transportation networks, college campuses and public buildings.

•    To help newly unemployed men and women who are trying to get back on their feet, I signed a new law to make health insurance more affordable for workers who have been laid off from jobs at smaller Illinois companies.

•    I also signed a law that gives struggling homeowners a grace period of up to 90 days to work with their lenders to avoid foreclosure. Thanks to this law, working families in financial trouble will get the chance to seek housing counseling and develop a plan to save their homes.

If we all work together, we can build a state government that works, not for the favored few, but for all the people. Your contribution of just $25 will help us to succeed in our campaign to make the will of the people the law of the land here in Illinois.

Sincerely,
Pat Quinn
Governor of Illinois
